176 Owner-Operators Honored During BCO All-Star Celebration

Landstar honored the best and safest Landstar owner-operators during its 8th Annual Landstar BCO All-Star Celebration held earlier this month.

The event featured an awards program during which Landstar honored 176 business capacity owners (BCOs), the company’s term for independent owner-operators who provide transportation capacity under exclusive lease agreements.

During the ceremony, Landstar inducted 14 BCOs as Landstar Roadstar® recipients, 137 BCOs as new Million Mile Safe Drivers, 22 BCOs as Two Million Mile Safe Drivers, two BCOs as Three Million Mile Safe Drivers, and presented one BCO, Million Mile Safe Driver and Roadstar Art Trezise, with the company’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

The select group of honorees were celebrated during a three-day event held in Savannah, Georgia. The annual event recognizes outstanding safety records and professionalism behind the wheel. The Class of 2018 is one of the largest classes of Million Mile Safe Drivers inducted in Landstar history. Each of the inductees has driven more than one million consecutive miles without a preventable accident.

“Landstar is proud to showcase one of its largest classes of Landstar Million Mile Safe Drivers and Roadstar honorees as the industry’s best,” said Landstar President and CEO Jim Gattoni. “Their skill and dedication is worthy of a celebration.”

Of the 1,043 active Landstar Million Mile Safe Drivers, 14 individuals were awarded with the Roadstar distinction during the 2019 celebration. The Roadstar honor is one of Landstar’s highest awards for owner-operators who are chosen for their high levels of safety, productivity and excellence in customer service. Each of the 14 Roadstar inductees previously earned the Million Mile Safe Driver status. The new Roadstar class raises the total number of active Landstar Roadstar recipients to 176.

Landstar began presenting the Roadstar award in 1990.

“Landstar Roadstar recipients raise the bar for the entire trucking industry,” said Gattoni. “Their dedication to service and excellence has earned them the right to be called the most elite independent business capacity owners at Landstar.”

Giveaway Truck Ready for 2019 All-Star Event

On July 2, one lucky business capacity owner (BCO) will get the keys to a new 2020 Kenworth T680 during the annual BCO All-Star Celebration. Each year Landstar gives away a new truck, including all registration fees and taxes, to one of its elite independent owner-operators – a pool of Roadstar® recipients and Million Mile Safe Drivers.

This year, the crisp-white Kenworth T680 is equipped with a fuel-efficient PACCAR MX-13 engine, PACCAR transmission and PACCAR drive axles. Touted as the most advanced, aerodynamic truck ever produced by Kenworth, the T680 includes ground-breaking technology and ergonomic comfort designed to elevate a driver’s experience.

Featuring fuel-saving intelligence, the truck’s idle management system is designed to eliminate the need for off-duty temperature control and integrate with real-time reporting technology to help a driver run for maximum fuel efficiency. Including the Kenworth Driver Performance Center, the truck’s 5-inch, full color display screen gives drivers an at-a-glance visual of fuel efficiency, truck diagnostics and performance indicators.

Also equipped with the Bendix® Wingman® Fusion™ technology, the T680 offers owner-operators an enhanced level of safety. The technology system features adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation and lane departure warning to alert the driver of potential road debris, impacts, lane departures and speed limitations.

The 2019 Landstar All-Star Truck Giveaway, powered by Comdata, will be the grand finale of the 2019 BCO All-Star Celebration being held in Savannah, Georgia, July 1-3, 2019. The annual event is an induction ceremony that honors the newest Landstar Million Mile Safe Drivers and Landstar Roadstar® recipients for their safe driving records and professionalism.

While the All-Star truck giveaway is exclusively reserved for Million Mile Safe Drivers and Roadstar honorees, all of the more than 10,000 independent owner-operators leased to Landstar have another opportunity to win a new truck. The Landstar Deliver to Win Truck Giveaway is held each year during Landstar’s annual BCO Appreciation event where every eligible independent BCO has an opportunity to win.

In January, Landstar BCO Rosemberg Villarreal won the 2019 Deliver to Win Truck Giveaway and drove home to Grand Prairie, Texas, in a 2019 Peterbilt 579 Ultraloft. The next Deliver to Win Truck Giveaway is scheduled for September 2020 in Rockford, Illinois.
