BCO Lifetime Achievement Award Presented to Art Trezise

Landstar presented its BCO Lifetime Achievement Award to Landstar Three Million Mile Safe Driver and Landstar Roadstar® Art Trezise during a special ceremony held on July 2, 2019.

The award was kept a surprise until Trezise’s name was revealed during the awards ceremony portion of the 8th Annual BCO All-Star Celebration. Each year, the event honors the company’s best and safest independent owner-operators.

During the award presentation, Landstar President and CEO Jim Gattoni called Art Trezise’s safety record “flawless.” Since leasing to Landstar in 1979, Trezise has driven more than 3.5 million miles at Landstar without incident.

“The BCO Lifetime Achievement Award is the perfect way to honor this 40-year safe driver,” said Gattoni. “The award is a testament to Art’s professionalism and excellence as an independent owner-operator at Landstar.”

Trezise, who lives in Springhill, Florida, was named a One Million Mile Safe Driver in 1993. In 2001, he reached two million safe miles with Landstar and also was named a Landstar Roadstar® recipient, one of Landstar’s highest awards for owner operators that recognizes their high levels of safety, productivity and excellence. In 2012, Trezise was honored as a Three Million Mile Safe Driver.

The BCO Lifetime Achievement Award was first introduced during the 2012 BCO All-Star Celebration. To be considered for the honor, nominees must be an active or retired Landstar BCO who has been leased on to Landstar for at least 20 consecutive years. Nominees must be at least a Two Million Mile Safe Driver and a Landstar Roadstar® recipient.

Independent owner-operators who receive the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award must also have consistently demonstrated professionalism by developing a positive reputation with regulatory and enforcement personnel, customers, agents and Landstar employees, as well as through industry recognition.

176 Owner-Operators Honored During BCO All-Star Celebration

Landstar honored the best and safest Landstar owner-operators during its 8th Annual Landstar BCO All-Star Celebration held earlier this month.

The event featured an awards program during which Landstar honored 176 business capacity owners (BCOs), the company’s term for independent owner-operators who provide transportation capacity under exclusive lease agreements.

During the ceremony, Landstar inducted 14 BCOs as Landstar Roadstar® recipients, 137 BCOs as new Million Mile Safe Drivers, 22 BCOs as Two Million Mile Safe Drivers, two BCOs as Three Million Mile Safe Drivers, and presented one BCO, Million Mile Safe Driver and Roadstar Art Trezise, with the company’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

The select group of honorees were celebrated during a three-day event held in Savannah, Georgia. The annual event recognizes outstanding safety records and professionalism behind the wheel. The Class of 2018 is one of the largest classes of Million Mile Safe Drivers inducted in Landstar history. Each of the inductees has driven more than one million consecutive miles without a preventable accident.

“Landstar is proud to showcase one of its largest classes of Landstar Million Mile Safe Drivers and Roadstar honorees as the industry’s best,” said Landstar President and CEO Jim Gattoni. “Their skill and dedication is worthy of a celebration.”

Of the 1,043 active Landstar Million Mile Safe Drivers, 14 individuals were awarded with the Roadstar distinction during the 2019 celebration. The Roadstar honor is one of Landstar’s highest awards for owner-operators who are chosen for their high levels of safety, productivity and excellence in customer service. Each of the 14 Roadstar inductees previously earned the Million Mile Safe Driver status. The new Roadstar class raises the total number of active Landstar Roadstar recipients to 176.

Landstar began presenting the Roadstar award in 1990.

“Landstar Roadstar recipients raise the bar for the entire trucking industry,” said Gattoni. “Their dedication to service and excellence has earned them the right to be called the most elite independent business capacity owners at Landstar.”

A Jurassic Adventure

“I got a picture of my head in a T-Rex, can’t ask for a better day than that,” laughs Landstar Business Capacity Owner (BCO) James Morris. “I’ve been trucking for 30 years, and this was a really fun and exciting haul.”

Morris, a BCO fleet owner of Steed Trans Inc., used crates, straps and blankets to coax 20 interactive animatronic dinosaurs into vans and transport the reptilian replicas from the Columbus Zoo in Ohio back to their birthplace – a warehouse in Allen, Texas. Continue reading
