The Winner of the 2020 Landstar All-Star Truck Giveaway

Roadstar® Million Mile Safe Driver Bobby Jordan Wins Landstar All-Star Truck Giveaway

Landstar System, Inc. has announced the winner of the 2020 Landstar All-Star Truck Giveaway sponsored by Pilot Flying J. Landstar Million Mile Safe Driver and Roadstar® Bobby Jordan of Soso, Mississippi, was the lucky winner of a 2020 Freightliner® Cascadia® 126.

For the first time ever, the Landstar All-Star Truck Giveaway, held on July 8, took place virtually via Zoom video conferencing. Winner Bobby Jordan was one of four finalists randomly drawn from the pool of Landstar’s 1,086 active 1 Million Mile, 2 Million Mile and 3 Million Mile Safe Drivers and Roadstars. The Roadstar® designation is one of the company’s highest honors for truck owner-operators awarded to the “best of the best” based on their high levels of safety, productivity and excellence in customer service.

During the virtual event, the 2020 Landstar All-Star Truck Giveaway winner was determined after each of the four finalists selected which box they believed to contain the key to the giveaway truck. Jordan guessed correctly to win the viper blue Freightliner Cascadia spec’d with a suite of safety systems, fuel efficiency features, a Detroit™ DD15®, 14.8 L engine and a Detroit DT12™ automated transmission.

“Wow! Thank you very much,” said a very emotional Bobby Jordan once he realized he’d won the giveaway truck. “Landstar has been good to me from the very beginning.”

Each year, Landstar gives away a truck, including all registration fees and taxes, to one of its Million Mile Safe Driver independent owner-operators. The 2020 Landstar All-Star giveaway truck marked the 41st truck giveaway in Landstar’s 32-year history as a company. Jordan leased to Landstar in 1982. He was named a Million Mile Safe Driver in 1993 and a Roadstar honoree in 2001.

“Congratulations to Bobby Jordan. Awarding a Landstar independent owner-operator with a new truck is an honor every year. This year, we take tremendous pride in continuing this tradition during these unprecedented times of a global pandemic. We thank all of our Roadstar and Million Mile Safe Drivers for their skills and their service excellence,” said Landstar President and CEO Jim Gattoni. “We also appreciate the contributing support of our sponsor company, Pilot Flying J, in helping us give away such a life-changing prize.”

Landstar Receives SC&RA Safety Awards

Landstar Million Mile Safe Driver and Roadstar® recipient Victor Markle was honored with the Specialized Carriers & Rigging Association (SC&RA) 2020 Million Miler Safety Award.

“I am very humbled by this award from the SC&RA,” said Markle. “This honor feels much bigger than me because at the end of the day, I just do my job. I make sure I am safe on the road to get home to my family.”

Each year, the SC&RA selects one professional driver from a SC&RA member company to receive the Million Miler Safety award. The SC&RA award recognizes drivers who have accumulated a minimum of one million consecutive miles of safe driving within the industry.

Markle, who leased to Landstar in 2005, became a Landstar Million Mile Safe Driver in 2013 and was selected as a Landstar Roadstar® honoree in 2014. He was nominated for the SC&RA award this year by Landstar’s safety department.

To be considered by Landstar for nomination, the potential recipient must be an independent business capacity owner (BCO) who hauls heavy/oversized loads and has already achieved one million safe miles of driving while leased to Landstar.

In addition to the Million Miler Safety Award, Landstar Transportation Logistics Inc. was recognized with the SC&RA 2020 Transportation Fleet Mileage award in the Over 100 Million Miles category. Landstar received the fleet safety recognition for having the lowest accident frequency rate in that category.

The Specialized Carriers & Rigging Association (SC&RA) is an international trade association of more than 1,400 members from 46 nations. Each year firms across the United States and around the world submit entries to the SC&RA Award competition, which recognizes worldwide excellence in the crane, rigging and specialized transportation industry. More information is available via SCRANet.org.

The Landstar Roadstar® status is one of the highest levels of recognition a business capacity owner (BCO) can receive at Landstar. BCO is Landstar’s term for the independent truck owner-operators who provide the company with transportation capacity under exclusive lease agreements.

A Flawless 40-Year Safety Record

“Humble” is the best word to describe the 2019 recipient of the Landstar BCO Lifetime Achievement Award Art Trezise – a three million mile safe driver and Roadstar® honoree.

Trezise says during the BCO All-Star Celebration awards ceremony, as he listened to Landstar President and CEO Jim Gattoni read the criteria for the BCO Lifetime Achievement Award, he knew his career matched each of the qualifications.

But, Trezise says, he never expected to hear his name called as the recipient of the company’s highest honor for owner-operators.

“Oh yes, it was certainly a surprise and I am extremely honored to have received it,” says Trezise.

The business capacity owner (BCO) has a flawless 40-year safety record with Landstar. It is an accomplishment Trezise is proud of, but as his wife Debbie explains, it is not one he brags about.

“He’ll tell you, ‘I’m just out here doing my job’,” says Debbie Trezise. “To just think of him getting this award, it makes me cry. I am so proud of him.”

To date, the BCO has driven more than 3.5 million miles while leased to Landstar, without incident. He says there’s no real secret to his perfect driving record. He just loves being a professional truck driver and does the best he can at all times.

“The Landstar safety culture is second to none, and I’m proud to be part of it. Landstar has been very good to us through the years,” says Trezise.”It’s given my family a great life and I’m thankful for that every day.”

The BCO Lifetime Achievement Award was first introduced during the 2012 BCO All-Star Celebration.

To be considered for the BCO Lifetime Achievement Award nominees must:

  • Be an active or retired Landstar BCO who has been, or was, leased to Landstar for 20 consecutive years
  • Have earned Two Million Mile Safe Driver status
  • Be a Landstar Roadstar® honoree
  • Consistently demonstrate professionalism

176 Owner-Operators Honored During BCO All-Star Celebration

Landstar honored the best and safest Landstar owner-operators during its 8th Annual Landstar BCO All-Star Celebration held earlier this month.

The event featured an awards program during which Landstar honored 176 business capacity owners (BCOs), the company’s term for independent owner-operators who provide transportation capacity under exclusive lease agreements.

During the ceremony, Landstar inducted 14 BCOs as Landstar Roadstar® recipients, 137 BCOs as new Million Mile Safe Drivers, 22 BCOs as Two Million Mile Safe Drivers, two BCOs as Three Million Mile Safe Drivers, and presented one BCO, Million Mile Safe Driver and Roadstar Art Trezise, with the company’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

The select group of honorees were celebrated during a three-day event held in Savannah, Georgia. The annual event recognizes outstanding safety records and professionalism behind the wheel. The Class of 2018 is one of the largest classes of Million Mile Safe Drivers inducted in Landstar history. Each of the inductees has driven more than one million consecutive miles without a preventable accident.

“Landstar is proud to showcase one of its largest classes of Landstar Million Mile Safe Drivers and Roadstar honorees as the industry’s best,” said Landstar President and CEO Jim Gattoni. “Their skill and dedication is worthy of a celebration.”

Of the 1,043 active Landstar Million Mile Safe Drivers, 14 individuals were awarded with the Roadstar distinction during the 2019 celebration. The Roadstar honor is one of Landstar’s highest awards for owner-operators who are chosen for their high levels of safety, productivity and excellence in customer service. Each of the 14 Roadstar inductees previously earned the Million Mile Safe Driver status. The new Roadstar class raises the total number of active Landstar Roadstar recipients to 176.

Landstar began presenting the Roadstar award in 1990.

“Landstar Roadstar recipients raise the bar for the entire trucking industry,” said Gattoni. “Their dedication to service and excellence has earned them the right to be called the most elite independent business capacity owners at Landstar.”
